‘Pictures and Memories’ cover reveal!

I was lucky enough to score Aisha Akeju as my cover artist again for ‘Pictures and Memories’, which is a ~10K short to be released on the 2nd of March next year. She brought the same beautiful touches to this as she did to¬†The Triad Trial cover, and I look forward to seeing it up on the LT3 site. In the meantime, here it is:

Pictures and Memories

It’s set in India during the Holi Festival of Colours, and Aisha absolutely nailed what I was picturing in my head!

R U OK? Day and #MentalAs

Background: I was diagnosed with major depression and generalised anxiety disorder in June 2010.

I don’t actually remember exactly how I was on R U OK? Day this year (Thursday 10th September). I had a psych visit that afternoon, where we discussed changing from the anti-depressant I had been on (Valdoxan) to another one (Brintellix). I went home that night with a starter pack of Brintellix. So I guess my mood was fairly low, because we were trying the Brintellix to see if it lifted my mood better than the Valdoxan.

The following Friday (18th September), I was admitted to a private hospital as a voluntary patient. I just got out today.

Transformative Works and Creative Commons

The following post was my final assignment for Law and Regulation in Communication at RMIT, semester one 2015. This particular assignment got 92%. It’s about copyright, transformative works, and creative commons. I had an inordinate amount of fun writing it.

Continuum 11: Sunday

I had stuff scheduled from 10AM to 11PM on Sunday, including another hour of reg desk at 11AM, to the point where I wasn’t sure if I’d make it to either Sunday Market or the Fan Fund Auction, both of which were things that I wanted to recklessly hurl money at. What I had planned and what I actually did ended up being quite different.

I started by waking up at 8, entirely by accident, and actually feeling refreshed and awake. I was confused and suspicious, because that made no sense. I don’t have good mornings. It’s a thing. So I got up, showered, got dressed, gathered up the cash from the previous night’s dinner, and went out for a hot breakfast (okay… okay… McDonalds). Went down to my bank branch on Elizabeth Street that does cash-in deposits now and tipped in the bag of coins from the dinner then fed in the notes, except for what I’d told myself I could spend. Coin deposit machines are deeply satisfying things and I hope they think kindly of me come the robot uprising.

Then I went back to the hotel.

Continuum 11: Saturday

I had no panels to speak on on Saturday. The only thing I had set in stone was working on reg desk from 4PM-5.30PM, and taking people to Dumplings Plus for what had originally been me and some mates on Facebook planning a catch-up and had turned into me winding up doing the hosted dinner.

I have now done two hosted dinners (more info when I post about Sunday), and I still don’t quite know whether I got it right, but people ate and nobody died so I guess I did okay.

Continuum 11: Friday

I hit the ground not running on Friday (5th June) because I was dragging a giant suitcase down Swanston Street without the benefit of the trams. My giant suitcase was only two-thirds full because I had plans for book-buying. There are now two things I dutifully save up for each year: NaNoWriMo (where I spend a bunch of money on my region), and Continuum (where BOOKS).

If you want the long story short of my Continuum 11, you can see my panel listing here. If not, read on.
